What is palliative care?
Palliative care is an approach to medical care that addresses the person as a whole, not just their disease or injury. It is a "holistic-care" approach that improves the quality of life of patients (of any age and of their families) facing the problems associated with all types of serious, chronic, and life-threatening illnesses. This type of care does not only serve individuals who are at the end of life. The primary purpose of palliative care is to provide relief from the symptoms and stress of an illness, by also providing psychosocial and spiritual support for patients.
