Localized corticosteroid injections can be used to treat the inflammation of small (target) areas of the body. Examples of conditions for which local cortisone injections are used include:
- inflammation of a bursa (bursitis) in joints like the hip, knee, elbow, or shoulder
- inflammation of a tendon (tendinitis) in problems like tennis elbow
- inflammation of a joint (arthritis).
This type of treatment can relieve symptoms for many months or even years.
